Mayowa Animasahun (born 8 August 2003) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a defender for League of Ireland side Dundalk.[4]
Career
Youth Career
Animasahun was born in Dundalk and began his football journey with local club Glenmuir United. His talent was recognized early, leading to a move to St. Kevin's Boys in 2017. After a year, he joined Bohemian, where he continued his development for three years before returning to his hometown club, Dundalk, in the winter transfer window of 2021.[2][5]
Dundalk
Animasahun joined Dundalk in January 2021[5] and initially played for the academy side. His potential was quickly recognized, and on 10 August 2021, he signed his first professional contract with the club.[6]
His professional debut came on 27 August 2021 in an FAI Cup Round of 16 tie against St. Mochta's. Animasahun came on as a 75th-minute substitute in a 5-1 victory.[7] His league debut followed shortly after on 3 September 2021, when he came on as an 85th-minute substitute in a 1-1 draw against Waterford.[8]
Animasahun didn't feature in the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, with the latter due to his loan spell at Dungannon Swifts. On 11 January 2024, he signed a new contract of undisclosed length with Dundalk, signaling the club's faith in his potential.[9]
Dungannon Swifts (loan)
On 11 August 2022, Animasahun joined NIFL Premiership side Dungannon Swifts on a season-long loan.[10] During his time with the Swifts, he made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.[4] This loan spell provided valuable first-team experience for the young defender before he returned to Dundalk on 10 June 2023.[11]
